Get data on annual small fish index fishing in Lake Huron

This dataset represents the results of index fishing to sample nearshore communities of small (prey) fish species in Georgian Bay and the North Channel. Various gear types are used for sampling, including:

  • small mesh gillnets
  • fyke nets
  • bottle traps
  • minnow traps
  • beach seines

The data is used to characterize fish communities in extremely shallow and under-sampled margins of the lake. It is also valuable for monitoring non-native invasive species such as round goby and hemimysis and providing early indication of recruitment for commercial important species. It includes:

  • details of net sets
  • species
  • biological characteristics such as age and sex
