Column Type Description
WMU Text

The administrative coverage areas that serve as a land base for wildlife monitoring and management. Indicate the areas of Ontario where hunting open seasons and harvest quotas may apply. Boundaries are regulated under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act - Ontario Regulation 663/98, Part 6 as amended. Beginning in 2019 data for WMUs 7A and 7B, 9A and 9B, 11A and 11B, 12A and 12B, 15A and 15B, 16A and 16B and 16C, 18A and 18B, 21A and 21B, and 55A and 55B was combined into WMUs 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 21, and 55, respectively.

Year Numeric

Calendar year. Within each calendar year hunting open seasons are defined for each Wildlife Management Unit.

Active Hunters Numeric

Estimated number of wolf/coyote tag holders that hunted for wolves/coyotes. Active hunter numbers are estimates based on replies received from a sample of hunters and are therefore subject to statistical error. Numbers have been rounded to the nearest whole number. The estimate of the number of active hunters may vary from other values (e.g. total tag sales) as individual hunters may have been counted as active hunters in up to three Wildlife Management Units, while others may have purchased a tag but decided not to hunt.

Harvest Numeric

Estimated number of wolves/coyotes harvested. Harvest numbers are estimates based on replies received from a sample of hunters and are therefore subject to statistical error. Numbers have been rounded to the nearest whole number.
