To ensure the rehabilitation work outlined in a mine closure plan is successfully performed, a financial guarantee (known as financial assurance) equal to the cost of rehabilitation work must be held in trust by the ministry. This database tracks the form (for example, cash, letter of credit or bond) and amount of financial assurance mining companies submit as part of mine closure plan requirements.
