Some examples of culturally significant features are:

  • burial grounds
  • cairns
  • farmsteads
  • marine sites (such as shipwrecks)
  • monuments
  • petroglyphs
  • ruins
  • resource gathering sites

Cultural heritage values are evaluated by the Ministry of Natural Resources with input from experts such as:

  • local historical societies
  • Indigenous communities
  • archaeologists
