Provincially licensed meat plants approved to process non-emergency slaughter (NES)

Data under review

This data is not available right now. We are reviewing the data to determine if it can be made open to the public.

This dataset contains a list of licenced meat plants and certified examiners approved to process carcasses of cattle and swine that are slaughtered on-farm.

A provision of Ontario Regulation 31/05 (Meat) allows cattle and swine producers to have their own animals slaughtered on their farm and processed in a provincially licensed meat plant. Products from a NES carcass can only be consumed by the producer and their immediate family on the premises where the animal was slaughtered. Products cannot be sold, shared, donated or distributed.

A certified examiner may provide stunning, slaughter and dressing services, and must perform ante mortem and post mortem examinations and ensure humane animal handling and sanitary dressing.
